SCHOOL BOARD APPRECIATION MONTH

The month of January marks the annual observance of School Board Appreciation Month - a time to salute the service of our school board members and celebrate public education.  The theme of this years' celebration is "School Boards Speak Out For Public Schools".

Florence County School District Four takes this opportunity to thank our loyal school board members who work hard through the year to make our schools great.  

 

As citizens and community leaders who serve our children and represent the Timmonsville community, our school board members, individually and most importantly, collectively, face complex and demanding challenges.  Yet, few people fully understand the scope and implications of our board members' responsibilities.  All citizens of Timmonsville should recognize the vital contributions of these men and women and focus attention on the crucial role these elected leaders play in the education of our students.  They truly make a difference every day.

 

Our school board members' job is to establish a vision of the education program, design a structure to achieve that vision, assure schools are accountable to the community and strongly advocate continuous improvement in student learning.  This job entails monthly meetings, reams of reports, agendas, proposal, and other information to ready and study; and a host of difficult decisions to make.

 

While they wear many hats in the workday world, our school board members put on a collective hat when they get down to the business of leading this school district.  Our board members pull together as a team toward a common goal – helping our students achieve.  While they may individually disagree on certain issues, their role as a board is to consistently strive toward excellence.

 

Again, during this month of January, 2012, we pay TRIBUTE and SALUTE our school board members and thank them for giving so much to our community, staff and especially to our students.  We ask everyone to make a special effort to tell everyone of our school board members that his/her hard work has been noticed and is truly appreciated.  Our school board members are:
