TO: Florence County School District Four Families
Although the 2011-2012 school year has presented challenges, it has also presented opportunities for our students and staff members to showcase the skills and talents they've developed in our schools. We are proud of the progress we are making as a district and thank the students, staff, parents and community for their determined efforts to help us reach our goals.
In these times of budget crises, our district has prioritized services and programs that support our students. We have leveraged categorical funding to support additional services and maximized our flexibility in other budgets to relieve the strain on the general fund that state underfunding has caused. I believe that we can continue to focus on our students, their futures and the necessary adjustments we all need to make in order to support them to achieve to their potential.
I am grateful for the opportunity to work alongside and in partnership with dedicated employees and stakeholders who are committed to providing educational opportunities and experiences to our students that will better prepare them to make the choices which will impact their future. We have countless examples of staff members who daily engage and challenge students, utilizing innovative instructional strategies.
On behalf of Florence County School District Four, thank you for the continuous support of our students and staff. Your presence at school functions, involvement in school organizations and feedback are critical elements in our efforts to provide an optimal educational environment for each student.
Matrell E. Sturkey, Interim Superintendent
