Florence County School District Four is located in the Town of Timmonsville in the western part of Florence County, South Carolina. It is a public, rural school district located in this small town. Timmonsville Educational Center (TEC) opened for instruction in February 2000 and is comprised of three schools - Brockington Elementary (3K - grade 5); Johnson Middle (grades 6-8) and Timmonsville High School (grades 9-12). Although Florence Four is a one roofing facility, the three schools are considered separate; however, all three school share the same address along with the administrative district office at 304 Kemper Street, Timmonsville.
The District employs 100 staff members. Of the district's total staff, 51% are teachers, 23 are at Brockington Elementary School, 12 are at Johnson Middle and 18 are at Timmonsville High School. Presently, (2020-21 SY), student enrollment is 668 of which (7.4%) are English-language learners, (82%) are African American, (7%) are Caucasian, and (.4%) are other. The District's poverty level is 80.76%. All students are served breakfast and lunch through the District's participation in the State Community Eligibility Provisio (CEP). The student attendance rate is 96.9%. Currently approximately 17% of students have an IEP.
Florence Four engages in partnership with local colleges, technical schools, and local school districts to offer a variety of course offerings. Career education classes are taught at neighboring school districts. The district partners with Florence Darlington Technical College for dual enrollment courses.
The Timmonsville community, according to the most recent census has a population of 2,320. The area once thrived with the tobacco market which dominated the town economy. Today, Honda of South Carolina, Manufacturing, Inc., is the economic engine of the community. Despite the 1998 addition of Honda, Timmonsville's economy has suffered. The 2010 Census revealed a median income for a household of $23,514. Despite the economic challenges, the Town of Timmonsville began revitalization projects in 2014, updating roads, water, and sewage system. These efforts have resulted in an increase of business openings and some returning.
