Child Find
In accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA), Florence School District One is obligated to locate and identify any child, 3 to age 21 suspected of having a disability and in need of special education services. Each month our office holds developmental screenings for children ages 3-5 whose legal guardian suspects a disability. A team comprised of a Nurse, Preschool Teacher, School Psychologist, and Speech/Language Pathologist holds Child Find developmental screening clinics once per month. Developmental areas considered include: physical development, cognitive development, communication development, social or emotional development, and adaptive behavior development. All children are screened in accordance with the Child Identification Standards set forth by the South Carolina State Department of Education (SDE).
